Entrepreneurs Are Getting Younger and Younger

by Ben Yoskovitz on November 16th, 2006

BusinessWeek recently released an article ranking 25 of the best young entrepreneurs in the United States. The criteria was that they had to be 25 years old or younger. The candidates came from people’s submissions to BusinessWeek. If I’m reading it right they only had around 300 submissions, which isn’t a huge sample.

Still, the list is worth looking at. What’s most important is that entrepreneurship among the younger generation is growing at a good pace. Sadly, I can’t put myself in the 25 and under crowd anymore, but I’m glad to see so many young entrepreneurs sprouting up.

From BusinessWeek:

In a 2006 poll of 1,474 middle and high school students, youth entrepreneurship organization Junior Achievement found that 70.9% would like to be self-employed at some point in their lives. That’s up from 68.6% in 2005 and 64% in 2004.

That’s not entirely surprising — with successes like YouTube and digg exploding onto the scene for younger people, who wouldn’t want to work for themselves?

Go check out the list of BusinessWeek’s top young entrepreneurs.
